DINING WITH WINDSTAR
It is 7:30 in the morning. You awake to hear the gentle tradewinds filling the sails. The smell of freshly-brewed Colombian coffee and buttery croissants lures you topside to the Veranda. It's breakfast al fresco, full service or buffet-style, anytime till 9:30. No need to hurry. Or if you prefer, linger over a continental breakfast served in the privacy of your stateroom. Whichever is fine with us. After all, this is what the good life is all about: doing what you please, when you please.
Again, the choices are many in the Veranda. Choose the sumptuous, seemingly endless buffet. Or, order from the lunch menu.
In the evening, we turn the spotlight to our elegant, wood-paneled restaurant. Here, the dining room manager seats you, but where is your decision. There are no preassigned tables or first or second seatings. When you dine and with whom are entirely up to you. (Seating usually begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be printed in the ship's daily program.) On the Wind Surf, you can enjoy the lively Degrees, featuring special themed dinners like Italian, Indonesian, Steak House and an eclectic choice of wines.
The evening attire onboard Windstar is specified as "casual elegance"- the emphasis weighted heavily on the former.
The cuisine is exquisite ... a unique creation of light and savory entrees using fresh native food and tropical accents. What will it be? Pear and goat cheese salad with prosciutto? Roasted eggplant and garlic soup? Grilled ahi tuna with Asian vegetables and a ginger pink peppercorn sauce? Or perhaps a mocha and chocolate terrine with almond sauce? To all this, we add a fine selection of vintage wines.
We offer Sail light and vegetarian recipes, specially created by our Chefs on board. In addition, our Executive Chef on board is available to help you choose light fare upon request.
Complimentary room service is available 24 hours a day for sandwiches, selected canapes, coffee and tea.

Windstar crew work very hard to make sure that every aspect of your cruise meets the highest standards. This includes those crew members who serve you directly, such as wait staff, beverage servers and the stewards who service your stateroom each day. There are also many others who support their efforts whom you many never meet, such as galley and laundry staff. To ensure that the efforts of all crew member are recognised and rewarded, a Hotel Service Charge of US$ 12.00 per passenger is automatically added to each guest's onboard account on a daily basis. If service exceeds or fails to meet your expectations, you are free to adjust this amount at the end of the cruise. In addition, a 15% Beverage Service Charge is automatically added to bar charges and dining room wine purchases. These charges are paid entirely to Windstar crew members and represent an important part of their compensation.
In terminals, airports, ports of call and on shore excursions, it is suggested that you extend gratuities consistent with customary local practices.
Children, especially infants and toddlers, are not encouraged aboard Windstar cruises. The intimate ship size and unregimented atmosphere are adult in orientation and do not provide for the care, supervision, or entertainment of children. Children occupying staterooms as the third person are charged the applicable "third person" rate, which is available on request. Travel for Children under 24 months is limited.
Like a lot of people, a trip to Alaska was something we both had wanted to do for quite some time. However fitting it in was difficult. Sarah from Quay Travel managed that very efficiently. What to me was proving frustrating, sometimes there are too many options, was to Sarah, not a problem. She found for us a cruise which suited our timing, and then arranged the best flight options to get us to Seattle. YES - we thought that is all organised, however we had decided to sort out our shore excursions . For what ever reason the cruise line’s web site did not like me. A Quay Cruise staff member willingly took us under her care and quickly sorted matters out for us. My wife and I are very pleased to say that everything on our trip which was organised here in NZ by Quay Cruise happened when and as it should. Our thanks to Sarah and her Team - the hassle is taken out of travelling.

We first met Margaret when one of our grandsons attended the same daycare centre as her daughter.
